L.O.V.E

"If this is Love, then love is easy, it's the easiest thing to do" Mcfly

It is that time of year again where many single people are going to start feeling a little bit sensitive because of lack of loving from a significant other, and trust me I know how it feels, I have been single for a while but in all fairness the thought of Valentine's day doesn't actually bother me and I get really annoyed when single people say 'I hate Valentine's day, it's depressing' only if you make it.

People should celebrate being in love; the only thing I hate about Valentine's day is all the commercial and tacky items you see in the shops.
Whatever happened to making something from scratch? instead of buying a card why not make one? put in a little bit of creativity into your presents. But it's not just the presents it's the cliched 'Valentine's day, book a meal for two' oh how VERY original, what happened to spontaneity people??

I think the biggest problem is what to do when all your friends are with their boyfriends? how are you meant to spend the night?

well...

Valentine's day falls on a Thursday this year so I suppose a lot of people might do something on the Friday, but I have a few ideas for Valentine's that could keep you busy.

So, here are some suggestions from me...

1. Bake; I have a mix to make Percy Pig cupcakes and I am so excited about it. Percy Pigs have become a major part in everyone's diet and now you can make cupcakes out of them or, make a classic cake like a Victoria sponge or Carrot cake.

2. Have some 'you' time, have a bath and delve into a great book. I love taking my kindle into the bath and I have been in there two hours before just engrossed in my book and yes the water was colder by the time I got out. Buy some expensive bath oils or bubble bath and just let yourself drift.

Some great books to download from Amazon

- The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared  - Jonas Jonasson
- Missing You - Louise Douglas

3. Go get a manicure and pedicure; the fact is, if you were with someone for this Valentine's you would be spending a lot of money on their present anyway, so why not treat it to yourself. Or, if you are like me and manicures don't really work have a haircut, it is amazing how you feel after a trim it's knowing you've treated yourself makes you feel better.

4.  Put on a dressing gown, buy yourself some face masks, cut up some cucumber, dip some strawberries into chocolate and pretend you are in a spa. Alright, you won't get the FULL experience but it's going to be cheaper and you don't have to worry about getting there and back.

5. Catch up on your favourite TV; again, like me and you live in a full house, sometimes I don't get a chance to watch the things I want to, so when you get a moment get on your laptop, BBC iplayer and 4od are the best . Mine lately has been the Great Comic Relief Bake Off  (I am actually obsessed) and Gok Wan's Style Secrets.

6. Or, if you are not into TV as much then watch a DVD, but don't go for a romance that is going to make you cry, watch something classic or a genre that you would never think to watch. I watched 'Enter the Dragon' and kung fu films make me want to usuallu turn off (except Karate Kid) but it was a great film. Some dvds I recommend:

'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'
'Brave'
'Snow White and the Huntsman'

7. Plan something to look forward to, get hold of your friends (when they are not with their other halves) and say you want to meet up. This gives you something to feel good about and makes you look forward to it.

I would suggest taking a look at Groupon for things like this and do something adventurous. One of the things i've always wanted to do in London is the Jack the Ripper Walk and they currently have it on Groupon for £10 each. Sometimes if you are really lucky you will find a cocktail deal in the midst, there is something very Sex in the City about going for cocktails with your girlfriends.

It's not much but if you get some inspiration from this then that's always a bonus, I would love to know what you all are getting up to this Valentine's day and I hope you all have fun

Amy x
