Festivals and frolics

Festival Fever!

As you all know and have seen Spring is going into summer and soon enough the festival season will hit us hard. Coachella, which is a well known festival in California, has already had it's run and the magazines are loving the fashion pieces which are coming out of it.

Festivals are the ideal place to flaunt what you've got; hundreds of thousands of people walking around, some more drunk than others; all keeping an eye out for the lastest accessory.
Now, I love fashion and I love looking at the latest trends but festivals for me has always been about the music. I cannot stand the girls and boys who treat the whole weekend as a fashion parade.

I will go one day where I will do my hair, put some make up on; but when you are on your second day, the make up is fading, you have lack of sleep and  comfortable is the operative word.
I don't look to what the celebs are wearing because they are not getting the whole experience of the festival.
It's alright for them to wear maxi dresses and sandals, they're not the ones living in a tent next to the toilets. Normal people have to wear wellies and give ourselves tent washes. A tent wash (for those who don't know) is taking a baby wipe and just going all over, as long as you are wearing deodorant you're good to go.
Who want's to be clean at a festival?

It's not all about being in the VIP area, that's not fun; who wants to be huddled away from the music and atmosphere. I'm all about getting down and dirty with my mates.

As you see with different festivals, there are different fashion styles. One of the biggest differences I saw was between Reading and V festival.

V festival was my first festival back in 2007, The Killers and Foo Fighters headlined the main stage. The experience was crazy and the atmosphere was something special. What I noticed back then, there were no girls dressed with daisies in their hair and no boys wearing chinos or loafers. Everyone was just there for the music experience.
I believe that the fashion of people depends on who is headlining on the weekend, The Killers and Foo Fighters have very loyal fanbases and some of those fans are middle aged, this is what I noticed when I went there. Nowadays I think it is a bit of a 'chav' fest, too many wannabe models and attention seekers. This is why I was put off by going to V festival, too many posers.

Take a risk, have a laugh and don't pose

However, Reading was a different story. It is a rocky and edgy festival, you could tell people were there for the music. I felt much more comfortable being at Reading than I did at V festival and V fest is on my doorstep near enough.
Reading was just a cool place to be, I prefered the fashion sense at Reading because it was edgy without the need of being over the top. I wore my David Bowie T shirt and some denim shorts, it felt great not to be judged by what you are wearing.

I'm not going to any festivals this year, boo! but I am going to America so that makes up for it! I will never not go to a festival again, I am planning on Glastonbury 2013! The olympics have ruined my plans for this year.
I just want to remind people that festivals are a chance to get with your friends and enjoy the musical experience. If you are a pop fan, go and explore your mind with some rock; if you are a rock nut (like myself) have a go in the dance tent. It's all about finding a new music experience, you never know you might find something you like.

  1. Really agree about V Festival, I went for the day for Mystery Jets and pints of strawberry filled Pimms... I enjoyed it but it's got nothing on Glastonbury, Bestival and Latitude.
I want, want a David Bowie t-shirt too, good outfit!
